Summary
Over 12,300 people flocked to EPFL for the 15th edition of Japan Impact!
For this anniversary edition, a retrospective museum and a conference hosted by former presidents of the PolyJapan association offered a different perspective and anecdotes on the history and evolution of our event.
The program shone in its diversity, with the presence of youtuber Mitsu, international cosplayer Begoña, One Piece host Vincent Chansard, and historian Sandrine Chabre. Musical performances were also highlights, with Natsumi Yuzu playing the shamisen, Hance with his captivating voice, and the rock concert by IRON ATTACK! and ButaOtome, who livened up the Saturday evening concert.
True to tradition, Japan Impact allowed visitors to immerse themselves in Japanese culture with a variety of workshops and lectures covering such diverse topics as yōkai, bento preparation, Konmari folding, shibari and much more. The martial arts were in the spotlight with demonstrations and initiations offered by several local dojos. This year, our yōkai-themed rally delighted young and old alike. At the same time, Nintendo and numerous video game associations transformed an entire floor into a gamer’s paradise, with the latest Switch releases and various video games. For their part, the cosplay competitions shone with high-flying performances and drew in the crowds. The return of the Idol competition, inaugurated the previous edition, was a resounding success, while Japan Impact’s traditional attraction, the Kawaii competition, was greeted with joy by the public at the end of the event, thanks to its talented participants. Finally, accessibility was a highlight of this edition, with the return of a silent room, the introduction of pictograms facilitating inclusivity for people with special needs, and other practical improvements.
