Japan Impact 2018: Projections

Various animation films and anime will be proposed throughout Japan Impact, mainly thanks to our partner Crunchyroll. All of these projections will be subtitled in French.

Films

Kimi no Na wa / Your Name (8/12)*

Saturday: 7 PM – 9 PM, Scene Sakura

Genres: Supernatural, Drama, Romance, School

The highly acclaimed movie by Makoto Shinkai with breathtaking animation, the biggest Japanese success in his domain.

Mitsuha, a high school girl living in the traditional Japanese countryside, yearns to live in the bustling city of Tokyo. One day, she awakens in the body of… Taki, a high school student in Tokyo with a busy life. A shock for him too as he awakens in the body of Mitsuha.

The body switchs become regular and a strange relation starts to build up between outsiders, leading to lots of complications…

 

Kono Sekai no Katasumi / In This Corner of the World (10/12)*

Following the life of Suzu, a young woman from Hiroshima, this movie conveys a touching tribute to the daily life of Japanese families during the Second World War.

Wedded to an outsider, she settles at her in-laws far from her mother town. Living a simple life described with simplicity, her naivepoint of view transports us to another era. She learns to enjoy life in sometimes difficult situations.

Sora yori mo Tooi Basho / A Place Further Than the Universe (10/12)*

Scenery that we have never seen. Sounds that we have never heard. Scent that we have never smelled. Food that we have never tasted. And the surge of emotion that we have never experienced. This is the expedition of recollecting the pieces torn apart and sensation left alone. When we reach that place, what will we think? Howling, 40 degree angle. Raging, 50 degree angle. Shouting, 60 degree angle. A wilderness beyond the heavy sea. The furthest south, far from civilization. At the top of the Earth. We will find lights through the girls’ eyes to live tomorrow.

 

Osomatsu-san / Mr. Osomatsu (14/16)*

Saturday: 12 PM – 12:45 PM, Auditorium Aki

Genres: Comedy, Parody

Mr. Osomatsu is based off of the gag manga series Osomatsu-kun by Fujio Akatsuka, and ran from 1962 to 1969. The series features a set of sextuplets, the Matsuno brothers, with Osomatsu being the oldest brother and leader of the group.

 

Kemono Friends (10/12)*

Saturday: 1 PM – 1:45 PM, Auditorium Aki

Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Fantasy

The story takes place in Japari Park, an enormous integrated zoo built somewhere in this world. A mysterious substance found there, called “Sand Star,” causes the animals to turn into humanoid beings called “Animal Girls”! These new creatures spend every day peacefully with the zoo’s visitors… but after some time, a lost child turns up in the park. The child’s attempt to find the way home turns into a great adventure with the Animal Girls!

 

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon / Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid (12/14)*

Genres: Slice of Life, Comedy, Fantasy

Miss Kobayashi is your average office worker who lives a boring life, alone in her small apartment–until she saves the life of a female dragon in distress. The dragon, named Tohru, has the ability to magically transform into an adorable human girl (albeit with horns and a long tail!), who will do anything to pay off her debt of gratitude, whether Miss Kobayashi likes it or not. With a very persistent and amorous dragon as a roommate, nothing comes easy, and Miss Kobayashi’s normal life is about to go off the deep end!

 

Barakamon (10/12)*

Barakamon follows the story of Seishu Handa- a calligrapher, who as a punishment from punching another famous calligrapher is outlawed to a small island. As a city boy will Seishu be able to adapt to his new environment?

 

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu / Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- (16/16)*

Natsuki Subaru, an ordinary high school student, is on his way home from the convenience store when he finds himself transported to another world. As he’s lost and confused in a new world where he doesn’t even know left from right, the only person to reach out to him was a beautiful girl with silver hair. Determined to repay her somehow for saving him from his own despair, Subaru agrees to help the girl find something she’s looking for…

 

Uchuu Patrol Luluco / Space Patrol Luluco (Short – 6 episodes) (10/12)*

Luluco is a normal junior high school girl whose father is a detective at the space patrol. One day, she visits the Ogikubo branch of the space patrol to save her father who is suddenly frozen. But she happens to be assigned as a space patrol by the chief director Overjustice. Wearing a space patrol suit with strange functions, will she able to save her father and keep the peace of Ogikubo from space criminals? And will she fulfill her life as a junior high school student, including love and study?

 

Tsuki ga Kirei (10/12)*

It’s the third year of middle school. Kotaro, a bookish boy aspiring to become a novelist, and Akane, a track girl who loves to run, meet in the same class together for the first time. They’re put in charge of the equipment for the sports festival, and slowly grow closer via LINE. How does Kotaro deal with his growing feelings for her? Meanwhile, Takumi has been in love with Akane since first year, and Akane’s friend, Chinatsu, becomes interested in Kotaro. A refreshing story of young love set in Kawagoe.

 

Flying Witch (10/12)*

Aomori, Japan In a land blessed by nature’s bountiful beauty, bizarre things begin to take place. Makoto Kowata, 15 years old, is a professional witch. She left Yokohama with Chito, her black cat, to live in the house of her relatives in Aomori. This is where she begins to train as a witch. Even though Makoto’s powers are still limited to just flying through the sky, she and her second cousins Kei and Chinatsu surely make the most out of each and every day.

Crude, rude, and a little…cute? Get ready for the larger-than-life attitude of Popuko and Pipimi, the small and tall stars of Pop Team Epic! Based off the bizarre four-panel webcomic by Bukubu Okawa comes a comedy that’ll throw you off with its out-there jokes and intense absurdity. You think you’re ready for these girls? Think again!

 

Tonari no Seki-kun (Short – 6 episodes) (10/12)*

Class is in session at a certain high school. Mahoutsukai no Yome / The Ancient Magus’ Bride (12/14)*

Chise Hatori, 15 years old. Lost, without hope, and without family, she is bought for money – not by another person, but by a non-human sorcerer named Elias. Though she hesitates, she begins life anew as his apprentice and future wife. She moves on with her new and peaceful life, slowly but surely, until one day, when she finds a Japanese picture book among the many sent to her from London by Angelica. It is a fateful book that discovered her in her younger years, when she was still troubled and lonely. This piece is a prequel to Chise’s encounter with the Thorn Sorcerer.
