Love Under the Crucifix (Ogin-sama, 1962), meanwhile, takes us back to the 16th century, to a Japan where Christianity is forbidden. This historical drama follows the fate of a woman guided by her emotions, confronted with faith, prohibitions, and persecution. Carried by powerful direction and emotional intensity, the film stands out as one of the filmmaker’s most striking works.
