About suminagashi
Suminagashi is the Japanese art of floating ink, an ancient and poetic practice where each creation is unique. A few drops of sumi ink placed on the surface of water transform into forms that can never be reproduced, guided by natural or intentional movements.
Dating back to the late Heian period (12th century), this contemplative art is surrounded by legends. Tradition tells that it was passed on by the Shinto deity Kasuga Myojin at a temple in Nara.
