Kenjutsu and Battōjutsu are the Japanese martial arts most closely associated with the sword. Whether katana or wakizashi, nodachi or tantō, any form of sword wielded by the samurai is included. Straddling Zen and Shinto, with an influence that goes back directly to the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, Wa Rei Ryū continues this centuries-old tradition of the art of the sword: come see us in action at Japan Impact! …and after watching our demonstration, come discover the art of the samurai sword by trying it out for yourself. For two days, you will be able to try out, briefly and under guidance, some basic strikes and cuts (kihon waza) as well as codified combat situations (kumitachi) using bokken (wooden swords). It will also be an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about samurai and their martial arts practice at our stand.

When we talk about samurai, it is difficult not to think of their swords, especially the daishō, the pair of blades consisting of a katana and a wakizashi. What not everyone knows is that there used to be another short sword, the tantō. Between past and present, combat and symbolism, history and use, come and discover this forgotten guard of the samurai at the conference held by the Dōjō Jouen of the Wa Rei Ryū as part of Japan Impact on February 15, 2026. The conference will take place in the Natsu room (CE Building) at 11:30 a.m.
