Discover at Japan Impact an exclusive preview talk presented by the Musée romain de Lausanne-Vidy (@museeromainlausanne), exploring the fascinating links between Greco-Roman Antiquity and Japanese pop culture, titled “Kodai: Antiquity in Japanese Pop Culture.”
Led by Kilian Rustichelli, archaeologist and Head of Exhibitions, and Dr. Matthieu Pellet, exhibition curator and lecturer-researcher at UNIL and EPFL, this talk is part of their upcoming exhibition opening on May 29. It examines how Japanese culture has appropriated ancient heritage and re-exported it to Europe in new and creative forms.
Through examples from manga, anime, and media mix such as Saint Seiya, Goldorak, Ulysses 31, and the works of Mari Yamazaki, the talk highlights how ancient culture has been reinterpreted, reshaped, and disseminated in Japan, helping shape our contemporary imagination.
