Kenjutsu and Battōjutsu are the Japanese martial arts most closely associated with the sword. Whether it’s a katana, wakizashi, nodachi, or tantō, all types of swords once wielded by the samurai are included. Straddling the line between Zen and Shintō, rooted in bujutsu and heihō, and directly influenced by the legendary Miyamoto Musashi, Wa Rei Ryū continues this centuries-old tradition of swordsmanship. Come see us in action at Japan Impact!
…And after watching our demonstration, come and experience the art of the samurai sword for yourself.
Over two days, you’ll have the opportunity to briefly and safely try out some basic strikes and cuts (kihon waza), as well as structured combat situations (kumitachi) using wooden swords (bokken).
It will also be a great chance to ask any questions you may have about the samurai and their martial practice.
